Bitcoin Staking on Stacks lets you earn BTC-denominated yield without giving up custody. Rewards come from the consensus mechanism that has secured Stacks since 2021.
Protocol-native Bitcoin yield, paid in BTC every week, with no lending or rehypothecation of the underlying Bitcoin.
Two bonds, both sold out
The Genesis Bond sold out and has paid BTC rewards every week since September 17. Bond 2 doubled capacity to 500 BTC and sold out too.

Where the yield comes from
Miners commit BTC
Miners commit BTC to mine Stacks blocks and earn STX. Through Proof of Transfer (PoX), the consensus mechanism that has run in production since January 2021, that BTC is paid to staking participants as weekly rewards. The yield is protocol-native and requires no lending or rehypothecation of the underlying Bitcoin.
Stakers bond BTC with STX
Stakers lock up BTC on the L1 and pair it with a 5% STX position through the bonding mechanism to earn native Bitcoin yield.
One risk surface instead of many
Most Bitcoin yield products stack custodial, smart contract, and counterparty exposure on the same principal. The Stacks bond reduces that stack to a single bounded exposure, sized precisely at the moment of lock.
Bounded exposure
The only product-specific exposure is the 5% paired STX, a known quantity from the day of lock.
Liquid principal
BTC is redeemable in roughly ten minutes through early exit, with no unbonding queue.
BTC in, BTC out
Principal and yield remain denominated in Bitcoin, with no wrapper or synthetic in between.

Terms of participation
Every bonding period runs on the same terms: a target BTC yield paid weekly, a 5% STX commitment, and your BTC timelocked on Bitcoin L1.
3% target annual yield per bonding period, set before the period opens and fixed for its term. Paid in BTC weekly, every 1,050 Bitcoin blocks . A reserve fund supports the target through down cycles.
STX commitment
5% of locked BTC value, USD-denominated at the time of lock.
Custody
BTC is locked on Bitcoin L1 via timelock, under the participant's custody or with a custodian; sBTC is also supported. Fireblocks, Fordefi, and Ledger hardware supported self-custody are available today. Institutions can also hold staked BTC with Anchorage Digital, a federally chartered bank, while keeping registration, signing, and the paired STX stake with the client.
Bond period
6 months (25,200 Bitcoin blocks), with a new bond period opening monthly. BTC unlocks roughly 10 days before the period ends, allowing time to restake for the next period.
Early exit
Locked BTC may be unlocked and redeemed any time within 1 Bitcoin block (~10 minutes). Early exit forfeits all further BTC yield for that bond period and the paired STX stays locked until the period ends.
Capacity allocation
Total BTC capacity is set each bond period by market conditions and available yield. The Genesis Bond opened at 230 BTC and Bond 2 at 500 BTC, with new capacity each month.
