by Bitcoin.

All Stacks transactions settle to Bitcoin. On top of that base layer security, the network and sBTC's 1:1 bitcoin backing are maintained by an independent signer set, reviewed by outside auditors, and continuously tested through a $1M+ public bug bounty on Immunefi.

Since the Nakamoto upgrade, Stacks transactions reach Bitcoin finality. Reversing a confirmed Stacks block would require reorganizing Bitcoin itself.

Signers

Two independent signer roles secure Stacks: network signers finalize every block, and sBTC signers safeguard the bitcoin that backs sBTC 1:1.

Network Signers: Chain Security

Every Stacks block is signed by STX stackers. A block is final once signers representing 70% of all stacked STX approve it. The role is open and permissionless: anyone meeting the stacking minimum can run a signer.

sBTC Signers

sBTC's 1:1 bitcoin backing is held by a set of 14 community-elected infrastructure operators, chosen through a public SIP-028 vote. Moving that bitcoin requires approval from 70% of signers, so no single operator, or small group, can act alone.

Secure by design. Clarity, the Stacks
smart contract language, is built to be predictable and hard to exploit.

DECIDABLE
Not Turing complete, so you can verify everything a contract can and can't do before it runs.
NO REENTRANCY
Calls are explicit and known at deploy time. A contract can't be re-entered mid execution, closing the exploit class behind many of DeFi's largest hacks.
POST CONDITIONS
Transactions abort if asset movements don't match what was declared, so even a buggy or malicious contract can't take more than you approved.
