How to Restake Your STX After the PoX-5 Hard Fork

PoX-5 is live. The hard fork activated at Bitcoin block 960,230 on Thursday, July 30, fully audited, with miners, signers, and pool providers upgraded ahead of activation.

If you were staking (formerly 'stacking'), every staked STX unlocked at activation. This is expected behavior, not an error, it's how the network moves everyone to the new PoX-5 contract. Rewards from your final pre-fork cycle will be paid out normally. 

To keep earning in cycle 141 (the first PoX-5 cycle), you must restake before Bitcoin block 962,050, which is expected around August 12. If you miss it, you will stay unstaked until you restake later, there's no penalty beyond the missed yield.

Restaking also comes with upgrades: the cooldown cycle is gone, so you can change your reward address without missing a cycle, and pool participation is streamlined. Staking stays STX-only until the Genesis Bond kicks off Bitcoin Staking at the end of August.

Your STX balance, wallet address, and keys are unaffected. If you're not staking, there's nothing you need to do.

This guide covers four apps: Leather, Xverse, StackingDAO, and Ryder Wallet.

Leather

Leather restaking is live. You can delegate your STX to a pool operator's signer-manager contract directly from the wallet. This is a smart contract a signer (the entity that runs a staking pool and participates in consensus) uses to manage staking on behalf of everyone delegating to that pool.

How to restake

1. Go to app.leather.io/staking.
2. Select the pool you want to stake with from the table, then select "Stake" in the last column. If you don't see your preferred pool yet, check again in a couple of days; some pool operators are still getting their contracts ready.
3. Enter the amount of STX you want to stake. sBTC payouts are the default; for Bitcoin (L1) payouts, provide a Bitcoin address and a max fee in sats.
4. Confirm the transaction in your wallet.

Each pool's rewards token, minimum commitment, and fee are shown in the table, so you can compare options before you delegate.

Xverse

Xverse restaking is live today, from both the web app and the mobile app.

Restake from the web app

Requires the Xverse Wallet browser extension.

1. Go to portfolio.xverse.app/earn.
2. Select "Stack STX."
3. In the registration step, enter the amount of STX you want to stake and your BTC reward address.
4. Confirm the transaction in the Xverse Wallet extension.

Restake from the mobile app

1. Open the Xverse mobile app and go to the Earn tab (the 4th icon in the bottom navigation bar).
2. Select "Explore more with BitcoinFi."
3. Select "Stack STX."
4. Enter the amount of STX you want to stake.
5. Enter your BTC reward address.
6. Confirm the transaction.

StackingDAO

What you need to do depends on which StackingDAO product you use.

If you hold stSTX or stSTXbtc (liquid staking)

No action required. StackingDAO, the liquid pool provider, handles the transition to PoX-5 for you.

If you stake through the native pool

Native pool stakers need to restake manually.

1. Go to app.stackingdao.com/?option=native.
2. Follow the on-screen steps to restake.

Why it's different

stSTX and stSTXbtc are liquid staking tokens: you keep a liquid, transferable asset while your underlying STX stays staked, and restaking is handled for you.

Ryder Wallet

Ryder Earn lets you stake STX from the Ryder App without giving up custody. Your private keys never leave your Ryder One hardware device, and every staking action is confirmed physically on the device, the same way every other transaction works.

How to restake

1. Open the Ryder App and go to Earn.
2. Select STX. Fast Pool appears as your staking provider.
3. Review the contract call to the Fast Pool contract on your Ryder One before you sign, so you can see exactly what you're approving.
4. Confirm on the device to send the transaction on-chain.

Your STX stays in your account throughout, and rewards deposit automatically.

What this means

If you use Leather: restake now, directly from the wallet, using the steps above.

If you use Xverse: restake now, from the web app or mobile app, using the steps above.

If you use StackingDAO: check which product you hold. stSTX and stSTXbtc need no action; the native pool needs a manual restake at app.stackingdao.com.

If you use Ryder Wallet: restake from the Ryder App, confirmed on your Ryder One device, using the steps above.

Restake before Bitcoin block 962,050 (around August 12 on the current schedule) to stay enrolled in cycle 141, the first PoX-5 cycle, and keep earning without a gap.
