Stacks at Token2049: A Week of Builders and Breakthroughs

Last week, the Stacks Labs team wrapped up an incredible run at this year's Token2049 in Singapore. With a large team all on the ground, the Stacks community was represented from the main stage to side events, from developer meetups to packed panels. Token2049 once again proved why it’s one of the can’t-miss gatherings in crypto.

Why Token2049 Hits Different

There's a reason Token2049 has become essential alongside the Bitcoin Conference. The venue, food, accessibility in downtown Singapore, and sheer diversity of attendees makes for a high-energy week. For Stacks, it was a chance to meet the community and developers from every corner of the blockchain world and dive deep into what's next.

The Convos That Mattered

What happens between sessions often says more than what’s on stage. This year, builders were pushing into some of the toughest technical frontiers yet.

BitVM 3/4 continues to evolve, opening new possibilities for computation on Bitcoin. Institutional wallet UX dominated hallway conversations. How do we deliver exchange-level polish while staying truly self-custodial and onchain? The MOVE smart contract language which continues to make… well, moves. And OP_CAT remained the elephant in every room: exciting, uncertain, and on everyone's mind.

‍

“Developers are hungry to use bitcoin. They just don't know how. Singapore really highlighted the need for Stacks to educate other chain devs about everything you can do with Clarity and Stacks.” — Eric Choy, DevRel at Stacks Labs

Stacks in the Spotlight

Stacks was everywhere this week — from Muneeb’s panels and presentations, to a strong showing at our headline Building on Bitcoin event. Turnout was impressive, and it was clear that Stacks’ mission continues to resonate with builders and community members.

Muneeb Ali delivered his keynote “Igniting Bitcoin Utility: DATs as the Engine” to a packed audience at Token2049 Singapore.

‍

“In Bitcoin, there have been two schools of thought. The first is the Satoshi Era, where Bitcoin is used productively and builds an on-chain economy. The second is simply holding Bitcoin — it’s passive. I came to Bitcoin for the first reason: using it on-chain, creating a circular economy.” — Muneeb Ali, Stacks Founder

It was especially fun meeting attendees who originally joined Stacks back during the early days — one even asked for help recovering funds from an early Blockstack web wallet (iykyk).

What Comes Next

The clearest signal from Token2049? Developers want to build on Bitcoin—and they're actively seeking the right stack to do it.

We spent time with dev agencies focused on ecosystem growth, indie hackers spinning up new ideas, and teams evaluating where to deploy next. Our message was consistent: Stacks makes Bitcoin programmable without requiring Bitcoin to change. And the resources to get started—from Stacks Ascent to our ongoing grants program—are here and ready.

The momentum from Token2049 makes it clear: the appetite for Bitcoin-anchored innovation is strong, and the interest in Stacks from builders across chains is only growing.

Now it's time to turn that attention into action.
