Stacks Labs today announced the exciting news that Muneeb Ali, founder of Stacks (STX), will become CEO of Stacks Labs. Alex Miller, who has run Stacks Labs as interim CEO since it was set up, moves into an advisory role. Muneeb Ali takes the role as Stacks shifts focus to accelerating adoption following the successful launch of Bitcoin staking.

Why now

Alex Miller took the interim role to stand up Stacks Labs, the largest contributor to the Stacks network, and to ship Bitcoin Staking. Both are done. The Genesis Bond opened on September 10 with four institutions (UTXO Management, Sypher Capital, 21Shares and HashKey), weekly BTC rewards have been paying out since September 17, and Anchorage Digital announced adding institutional custody for self-custodial Bitcoin Staking on September 24.

The appointment formalizes a role Muneeb Ali has increasingly taken on during the build phase of Bitcoin staking: working directly with institutional partners and sophisticated investors and leading key industry engagement. He remains the most recognizable voice for Stacks, setting out the vision for Bitcoin capital markets and a future where idle Bitcoin becomes productive capital.

Alex Miller said it this way:

Where the growth comes from

Muneeb Ali's focus is getting Bitcoin Staking to more people as the infrastructure is in place and institutions are ready to put their Bitcoin to work.

On the institutional side, 21Shares, UTXO Management, HashKey Cloud, Anchorage and Fireblocks are already part of the Bitcoin Staking ecosystem. Muneeb will focus on driving the resource alignment and hires necessary to further scale Stacks' visibility in the market while continuing to support key institutional relationships. The product roadmap and existing partnerships continue as planned, and Muneeb has already begun setting out his priorities for Stacks as he takes the helm.

Stacks is also expanding in Korea, the Middle East, Hong Kong and other target regions through regional media partnerships and a growing program of institutional engagement and events. The goal in every market is the same: Bitcoin Staking for institutions and everyday Bitcoin holders at scale. You will see the team at events like Korea Blockchain Week, Token 2049 Singapore and The Bridge NYC.

More on Muneeb

Muneeb has worked on Bitcoin since 2013, founded Stacks in 2017, and led the first SEC-qualified token offering for STX in 2019. That record is important when the conversation is with custodians, asset managers and exchanges in regulated markets.

He has also been the most recognizable voice for Stacks, making the case for Bitcoin capital markets and a future where idle Bitcoin becomes productive capital.

What this means

For institutions: the team focused on institutional distribution is growing, and Muneeb stays close to the key relationships. Start at the institutional Bitcoin Staking page.

For Bitcoin holders: the options page shows which path fits, whether that is self-custodial or pooled.

For the ecosystem: the product roadmap and existing partnerships continue as planned. Muneeb will share more on priorities as he takes the helm.

Bonding Period 2 opens October 10. To see how Bitcoin Staking works, start at the Bitcoin Staking resources hub.
